Monthly Green Round Up

I've decided to start sharing new products I'm trying and the steps I'm taking on a monthly basis toward a healthier lifestyle and sustainable home! Growth and improvement don't happen over night. Small, but intentional steps add up over time. With that being said, welcome to the first installment of Monthly Green Roundup.

Simple Ecology
ModestPlanet

I've been slowly working towards reducing plastic items in our home. I got these wonderful, durable bags from Simple Ecology. I love them for their multi-functionality; I can use them for more than grocery shopping! I've also been trying some bamboo/bpa free toothbrushes and these guys from Modest Planet have been great. They come individually packaged and when you're done using them they can be composted!

Bee's Wrap

I make a lot of my own cleaning products, but sometimes I wanted something a little stronger to get rid of the soap residue in the shower and sink and to leave the room smelling fresh. Castile soap has been perfect for this. My favorite is the Hemp Rose scent! Castile soap is oil based and non-toxic, biodegradable. It has so many uses; from cleaning bathrooms, to dishes, to laundry, to body wash-- it's so multifunctional!

I've had a hard time breaking free of the occasional plastic zip-lock bag and the quick and easy plastic wrap, but I think I'm well on my way to eliminating those! I'm really liking Bee's Wrap. I've used it to wrap fruits and vegetables and it keeps them really fresh. Plus is super easy to clean up.

Dr. Bronner's

I've heard so many good things about Vital Proteins Grass Fed Collagen Peptides and I was so curios to try it for myself. This tasteless, easily dissolving powder seeks to bring back healthy proteins into our diet that we miss out on by not eating whole animals.

The amino acids found in Collagen is essential for healthy skin, nails, hair, ligaments and can even strengthen and increase bone density.

I've been popping a scoop in my hot chocolate in the mornings!

Since we live in town, we invested in a Berkey Water Filter shortly after we moved here. Their "Black Berkey" filters will reduce or remove pathogens, parasites, herbicides, pesticides, VOC's, heavy metals, as well as bad tastes and odors. We have had ours for nearly a year and love it!

With city water, we decided to invest in the fluoride and arsenic reduction filters this spring and I have noticed a difference. We also purchased their shower filter. My skin and hair have felt a lot cleaner, no more filminess and I've felt less dried out.
